SECURING YOUR WELLBEING
Anti MRSA security seal

This product's main aim is to assist in combating MRSA.

WHAT IS MRSA?

Staphylococcus aureus, a normally harmless bacterium whilst on the surface of the skin can cause a serious infection if it gets into the body or under the skin.

For many years Staphylococcus aureus was treated with methicillin. MRSA is a strain of Staphylococcus aureus that is methicillin resistant.

HOW IS MRSA SPREAD AND HOW CAN WE PREVENT IT?

MRSA is spread by physical contact with the Staphylococcus aureus organism. Whilst 1 in 3(1) of us carry the bacteria on our skin without developing the infection, the number of people developing the infection has made headlines in recent months.

“There is a 30% year on year increase in deaths from Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)...”(2)

Contact with infected persons should be limited and where physical contact is required, hygiene standards must be stringently implemented to ensure bacteria does not pass from person to person, via objects or surfaces.

WHAT’S MRSA GOT TO DO WITH INOPLAS?

In areas such as hospitals and laboratories, physical and biological security are equally important. The use of plastic security seals to deter tampering or theft of materials used routinely by employees is prevalent. At the same time it is these materials and the security seal that could harbour infection-inducing bacteria.

Our new range of security seals is made using Biomaster.(3) “Silver ions interact with a wide range of molecular processes (…) resulting in a range of effects from inhibition of growth and loss of infectivity, to cell death….”(4)

The additive has no effect on the colour or performance of the security seal but will have an effect on the spread of MRSA.(5)

OTHER MICROBES VULNERABLE TO BIOMASTER

Microbes such as Salmonella enteritidis, Candida albicans are amongst the many organisms whose growth and infectivity is inhibited by Biomaster. A full list can be found on Begg and Co’s website.
